Cultural experience

Best cultural experience ever: 
I don't have a best of the best but seeing Ionesco's "The Chairs" on stage in London was a top one. So was a tour of Venice and the Veneto to see the buildings of Andrea Palladio in person - plus the amazing cuisine, of course.
Not-to-be missed local cultural events: 
Umbrella Music Festival, Wednesdays at the Hideout, Rhinocerus Theatre Festival, Artopolis, Chicago Improv Festival, SOFA Chicago, Select Media Festival
Your number one arts recommendation to an out-of-towner: 
As a one-time art historian, I feel obligated to direct people to perhaps the most obvious choice: the Art Institute. Or one of the many walking architectural tours.
