I'm going on an announcement from a Wednesday late night concert, so figure me if the details are vague. This Sunday, at the Green Mill, there will be a benefit concert for a (uninsured) New York jazz musician overwhelmed by health care bills from recent, serious surgery.
Far too many people in the arts are uninsured. All of the proceeds from this concert will go to pay off bills that Americans in general should not be burdened with. Even better, there is going to be some great music. One of my favorite local composers and players, Rob Mazurek, will be there with a group, as will local stalwarts Ted Sirota's Rebel Souls. The concert is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. Bring some friends and enjoy some fine jazz while helping someone at a difficult time.
To end on a tangent, am I the only one who really misses the Sunday at 4 p.m. shows at the Jazz Showcase? What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. An intense set with McCoy Tyner then home in time for dinner. Any club owners listening?
